01Fire extinguishers

Extinguisher types and where they go

  • Dry chemical powderABC

The basic extinguisher for most premises, and the type the shops regulation names. For solids, liquids and gases.

  • Carbon dioxideCO₂

Next to electrical panels, server rooms and equipment: it leaves no residue and doesn't conduct electricity.

  • Kitchen extinguisherClass K

For cooking-oil fires next to fryers. Its wet chemical cools the oil and stops it reigniting.

  • FoamAFFF

For flammable liquids — fuel and oils in workshops, warehouses and fuel stations.

04Upkeep: when and how

Upkeep: when and how

Common practice under the US standard NFPA 10; what your premises need is set by Civil Defense:

  • A monthly visual check: in place, gauge in the green, pin and seal intact.
  • Annual maintenance by a specialist, with the tag updated.
  • Refill straight after any use, even partial.
  • A pressure test of the cylinder at longer intervals set by the extinguisher type.
How many extinguishers does a shop need?

Under the Civil Defense shops regulation: one per 100 m², and at least two dry-powder extinguishers however small the shop. More, or other types, may be required by activity — CO2 near electrical panels, Class K in a kitchen.

Which extinguisher type is right for my business?

Dry powder is the base for most premises; add CO2 by electrics and equipment, Class K by fryers, and foam where there are flammable liquids. Send us your activity and area and we'll set the list.

Do you refill existing extinguishers?

Yes. We refill extinguishers after use or at expiry and update the inspection tag. If a cylinder is no longer fit, we tell you and replace it.

Do you give me the safety-equipment certificate for the licence?

Yes. After installation we prepare the safety-equipment installation certificate matching your details; its number is needed on an instant-track Salamah request.

How do I know an extinguisher is still good?

Check three things: the gauge is in the green, the pin and seal are in place, and the tag shows a recent inspection date. A missing or expired tag is one of the most common inspection remarks.
